Clover (Red)

Widely used in traditional medicine as a

remedy for menopause symptoms, asthma, whooping cough, arthritis, and even some types of cancer treatment.

For the menopause is helps with hot flushes and night sweats, due to its isoflavones which has similar effects to estrogen. Isoflavones also support vaginal dryness and mood changes.

Bone health is also supported and is very helpful in postmenopausal women with reduced bone density, as red clover strengthens bones, being a good source of calcium and phosphorus.

This same plant is also considered to help arterial health and elasticity which in turn supports cardiovascular health and helps to reduce the risk of heart attacks. It is believed that the isoflavones help protect by increasing HDL which is the good cholesterol in the body.

Other considered benefits to this plant are better skin health due to the high levels of antioxidants, anti inflammatory issues, chest complaints like asthma, coughs and colds and congestion.

The plant is considered safe for most people, although those on blood thinners and hormone replacement therapy should avoid it, also pregnant woman and breastfeeding mums should seek medical advice before starting this herb.

Red clover in its most potent form is usually found as a supplement, but it can be picked and used fresh or dried in a herbal tea. (Only use the flower tops) They are also available as tinctures and extracts from health food shops.
