Magical Cooking #116 - 23rd April 2025
I’m not actually posting a recipe to eat this week, this is more about what you can do to feed your skin! There are lots of different skin butters out there and which are the best? Well that depends on your skin type and what you put in your mouth. As you know I am not a vegan, but I have many students who are, so this is for them.
Cocoa Butter
Moisturizing: Rich in fatty acids, cocoa butter is excellent for locking in moisture and nourishing dry skin.
Improves Skin Elasticity: Its emollient properties can help improve skin elasticity, making it a popular choice for reducing the appearance of stretch marks.
Antioxidant-rich: Contains antioxidants that help protect the skin from environmental stressors and damage.
Soothing: Can help soothe sensitive or irritated skin.
Shea Butter
Deeply Nourishing: High in vitamins A and E, shea butter is deeply hydrating, providing essential nutrients for healthier skin.
Anti-inflammatory: Helps reduce inflammation and irritation, making it ideal for conditions like eczema and dermatitis.
Skin Regeneration: Promotes skin regeneration and can help with the healing of scars and blemishes.
Softening: Helps soften and smooth rough skin, including areas like elbows and knees.
Mango Butter
Lightweight Hydration: Known for being lighter than cocoa and shea butter, mango butter provides hydration without being too greasy.
Rich in Vitamins: High in vitamins A, C, and E, which are beneficial for skin health and regeneration.
Improves Texture: Can help improve skin texture and is particularly beneficial for dry or flaky skin.
Protective Barrier: Forms a protective barrier on the skin, helping to protect against environmental damage.
Kokum Butter
Non-greasy Moisturization: Despite its thickness, kokum butter is non-greasy and easily absorbed, providing long-lasting moisture.
Regenerative Properties: Supports the regeneration of skin cells and improves skin’s elasticity.
Soothing and Healing: Its soothing properties help heal cracked or damaged skin, making it ideal for lips and heels.
Rich in Nutrients: Packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants that nourish skin and combat aging.
Each of these offers specific benefits that can address various skin concerns while providing deep hydration and nourishment.
