Monday Moons #71 - 3rd Feb 2025

Waning Gibbous Moon Energy

The waning gibbous moon phase comes straight after the full moon. The moon's phases are caused by the relative positions of the sun and moon in the sky and yes, for those wondering, we only ever see the 1 side of the moon.

The moon goes through a full rotation every 29.5 days, which means that it is perfectly possible to occasionally have 2 full moons or 2 new moons in a month.

Anyway back to the waning moon - Why is it called Gibbous? The term waning means decreasing in size, that is simple enough. The the term gibbous means “humped-back”, therefore, the name refers to the surface area of the Moon that we see is decreasing and the shape of the lit-up part of the Moon looks like a hump-back.

The benefits of magic at this time are -

Self-reflection: The waning gibbous can help you become more self-aware and make positive changes in your life.

Gratitude: You can feel grateful for what you've learned and what you have.

Letting go: You can release old habits and patterns that no longer serve you.

Rebirth: You can symbolise rebirth and personal growth.

Re-adjusting intentions: You can re-adjust your intentions for the future. This is ideal if the things you have been manifesting are just not working out for you now.

The next waning moon will be the 20th Feb 2025 in the UK.
