Also filled with Antioxidants that help stop us getting cancer, Flavonoids and Phenols that help prevent chronic diseases and Tannins that reduce swelling and inflamed joints. They also contain high levels of fatty acids which are energy sources and membrane constituents.

Sloe berries are traditionally used in herbal remedies, tonics, and jams. Although Sloe Gin has become very popular again more recently. Sloes play a big part in English and European folklore and have generally been poo-pood by the medical industry.

Do not eat Sloe berries in their raw state, they are very astringent, tart and literally dry your mouth out. And if that isn't bad enough, they contain high levels of hydrogen cyanide. So always cook before eating.
