Yuletide Blessings #54 - 22nd Dec 2024

Well it is that time of year again, when we are all rushed off our feet, our homes are full and we are so tired we don’t know what to do.

At 56 I’m getting a bit long in the tooth for all this now, I’ve done the Christmas with the kids bit, having family to stay, cooking for 12 people, filling 40 baubles with herbs and crystals for the yule tree, leaving suprise presents on a total strangers doorstep, delivering all the neighbours Yule cards in the snow and now I just want to appreciate the yule tide blessing that it is.

Winter is about hibernation, refuelling, contemplation and that is what I now do. With only Joe and I to please ourselves, we only celebrate Yule, we don’t put a tree up, I made a very large wreath with baubles and cinnamon sticks and that goes on the wall instead.

Last year we went away to Morocco for Yule and did a beautiful ritual on the beach for both sunset and sunrise, we flew home on Christmas Day and had pizza in the hotel at the airport, it was wonderful.

This year I am running my usual group ritual at the house, with a fire in the super big cauldron, lots of food and drink and yuletide singing. On the 22nd Joe and I are heading off to a hotel to finish our Yule celebrations together and alone, in beautiful surroundings and with an ancient woodland in the grounds. I will be up early to see both the video link of sunrise at Stonehenge and also the sunrise at the hotel which should be about 8 mins apart and then it will be chill out time, journaling, meditation, going out for walks and thinking about all the things I can let go for 2025.

Don’t ever forget what Yuletide is all about, don’t burn yourself out, spend more than you have and sit with people you really don’t like that much!

See you back here in 2025.
