Knot Magic or Witches Ladder

This is an ancient form of spellcasting and has very basic wording that most people can follow.

I usually start by holding what ever I’m going to knot in my hands and thinking about the outcome of my spell. Once I feel I have enthused enough energy into the cord, wool or whatever else I am using, I start the wording.

By knot of 1 the spell’s begun,

By knot of 2 the magic comes true,

By knot of 3 the So mote it be,

By knot of 4 this power I store,

By knot of 5 my spells alive,

By knot of 6 the spell I fix,

By knot of 7 the future I leaven,

By knot of 8 it will be fate,

By knot of 9 what’s done is mine.

As you tie each knot see what it is you want coming true.

This type of magic is probably the least used and yet it is so simple. Knots are an incredibly versatile tool to use in your spells. They allow you to cast powerful spells with pretty much anything you can tie in a knot. Often witches of old used a hair from the person’s head who wanted the spell casting.

You can use the Witches Ladder in the same way and instead of tying knots, you spin the beads in order, this works well if you like to meditate and draw down the moons energy as the ladder can be used for all three. (See the ones I sell under the Ladders tab in my store)

These spells can range from something as simple as tying your shoes or braiding your hair to complex and beautiful knotted crafts. You can choose colours to suit the spell if you wish, but it isn’t imperative. Green thread for health, black for banishing, red for protection etc

Possible materials to choose from include: ● Rope, Cord, Yarn, Copper Wire, Chains, Vines, Wool, Scarves, Ribbons, Hair, Garden Twine. It is better if it is a natural product of course.

The basic premise is that as you tie the knot you’re binding your intention. You can think of the knot as an anchor point for an idea that you want to manifest. I can’t think of a type of spell that can’t be performed using a knot. Binding spells, healing, protection, prosperity and luck spells, it can all be done with a knot. Absolutely any knot can be used to cast a spell. Which is lucky unless you are a boy Scout or sailor. You can also use needlework like knitting and crocheting which can be used in the exact same manner. This type of knot magic can become very elaborate, including the use of various stitches, patterns and projects to achieve your intent.

Since knots are a physical representation of the spell, if the knot gets broken the spell is broken as well. This isn’t always a drawback though, it means that your spells are easily undone if you ever feel the need.
